Lessons

From novice to advanced, individuals and groups — all ages and experience levels are welcome.  Bharatha Natyam is universal in its appeal and could be learned by anyone — irrespective of nationality and culture. All that is required is enthusiasm and interest in this classical dance form.

Malini’s students learn the classical and folk dances of South India under her excellent guidance. By learning the intricate foot rhythms and mime of Kuchipudi and Bharata Natyam, the student is able to perform in public demonstrations at cultural events such as Taste of India and IndiaFest, among other festivals and fairs.

Many of Malini’s students have successfully graduated and proven their skills as a dancer during their Arangetram (also known as Ranga pravesha). The arangetram is the debut performance of a Bharata Natyam student, which can only can be performed after years of rigorous training. Some graduates of Malini’s Dances of India have become teachers themselves, furthering the legacy of India’s classical traditions in America.
